Portfolio contains over 50 different products primarily in drip tape, micro sprinklers, fertilizer tanks and flexible water storage tanks. It helps smallholder farmers living on less than Rs 50 per day. Smallholder farmers face low crop yields and just one harvest a year – making it almost impossible for them to earn their way out of poverty. Modern irrigation technologies cater to farmers with fields of four or more hectares, forcing smallholder farmers to rely on flood irrigation, which uses water inefficiently and does not maximize crop yields. Plus the water available for agriculture is declining fast and smallholder farmers are the first affected by water shortages. The low-cost irrigation technology raises income of smallholder famers by an average of Rs 2 lakh a year, increases crop yields by 30 to 70 percent, and delivers water savings of 30 to 50 percent. These low-cost drip irrgation products are designed specifically for smallholder farmers in India. More than 330,000 farmers in India and Pakistan have purchased Krishak Bandhu (KB) drip products.(funded by Acumen Fund)
